Embossed pewter is not a new form of art but it is an art form that has not been explored extensively. Little is known about it and it is not widely practiced.
The craft of embossed pewter is completely different from cast pewter, a craft that is widely known (think Carol Boyes and ancient wine goblets).
The art of embossed pewter is done on thin sheets of pewter. The design is drawn onto the metal and then modelled from the back, using special tools, to create a raised or embossed design on the front. The back is then filled with beeswax to prevent the soft metal from being flattened. The front of the design is treated with a chemical substance called patina to give the metal an aged effect. The completed design is then secured onto a firm surface to support the pewter artwork.
I use embossed pewter art to express my love of animals, my walks on the mountain, and my imagination. My style is sometimes simple with clean lines and sometimes a riot of colour on people who live in my imagination. My inspiration often comes from my imagination.
My work is offbeat, quirky, and fun. I hope that you love it!
If you are interested in buying any of my work, please drop me an email.

I run ongoing classes for a maximum of 5 students per group from my studio in Vredehoek, Cape Town. Beginners and experienced students are welcome. If you are new to the art of embossed pewter, I will take you through my beginner’s exercises to teach you the tools and techniques of working with sheets of pewter. After that, you work on projects of your choice with my guidance.
Classes are held on Tuesday mornings from 09:30 to 12:00, Wednesday mornings from 09:30 to 12:00, Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday mornings from 09:30 to 12:00.
Please email me if you would like to join a class.
Beeswood Decor on the Franschhoek Road in Simondium is selling a selection of my pewter statues! It’s a fabulous place to get inspired and buy wonderful things for your home. Beeswood is next to a Bootleggers, so some great coffee and a decadent treat can be planned for this outing to Simondium.
